Senator Leila de Lima joined those who asked the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to suspend the operation of E-sabong until the disappearance of the 34 sabungeros is resolved.
In the case of De Lima, it would be better to stop the operation of E-sabong altogether.
De Lima stressed that this is if our laws are not able to control the operation of E-sabong and if they are not able to protect the public from it.
It is alarming for De Lima that the number of missing cockroaches connected to online cockfighting continues to increase.
De Lima further stressed that E-sabong is also poisoning Filipinos and it is believed that gambling will find the solution to the problem of poverty which has been exacerbated by the pandemic.
De Lima explained that the safety and welfare of the people must prevail and that no amount of gambling can match the lives of Filipinos.
Meanwhile, for Senators Koko Pimentel and Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Congress should not rush the approval of bills regarding franchising operators of online sabong or E-sabong.
Pimentel stressed that lawmakers must have enough time to study the pros and cons of the E-sabong operation.
Just now, Pimentel announced that he will vote “No” or against the franchise bills for E-sabong.
Senator Dela Rosa, on the other hand, suggested that it be left to the next Congress to decide whether or not to give a legislative franchise to those who operate online sabong or E-sabong.
According to Dela Rosa, franchise bills should not be rushed because there are many issues and questions.
The Senate has already endorsed in the plenary of the committee on public services headed by Senator Grace Poe the bill to give a 25-year franchise to Lucky 8 Star Quest which owns three cockpits in Manila, Laguna, and Batangas.
