More than 14,000 schools nationwide are ready to start implementing limited face-to-face classes in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Secretary Malcom Garma.
Garma said this number is also based on the result of their assessment conducted until last week.
According to DepEd, there are about 47,000 public schools and 12,000 private schools in the country.
Garma stressed that in order to implement face-to-face classes, schools must first get approval from their local government.
It also does not eliminate the option for parents to keep their children in distant learning.
The official said it is not required for students to participate in face-to-face classes to have the COVID-19 vaccine.
So far, 89 percent of teachers have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
