Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos believes no need to enforce the curfew in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Abalos said that Metro Manila residents are “self-regulating” amid the surge of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Explaining the implementation of the curfew during the height of the hard lockdown in NCR, people have learned that they do not go out because the virus is contagious.
The MMDA chair added that by 5:00 pm, the malls and main roads in Metro Manila will be almost closed, so the curfew is no longer necessary.
But local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila have already implemented a curfew on minors under the age of 17 in NCR and it will remain so until now.
Meanwhile, the MMDA chairman considers that there is no need to raise Alert Level 4 in Metro Manila because of the current movement of NCR residents.
If recalled until the end of January the NCR will remain at Alert Level 3.
Under Alert Level 3, some establishments will be allowed to operate up to 30 percent indoor venue capacity but this is only for those who are fully vaccinated and 50% outdoor venue capacity when all employees are fully vaccinated.
In-person classes, contact sports, funfairs/fairs, and casinos are the activities and establishments that will not be allowed at the current alert level.
As soon as the NCR is below Alert Level 2 or 1, the ban on the release of unvaccinated people will automatically be lifted.
