The government is forced to put in place ways to save on fuel and diesel consumption. Full-scale austerity is needed because there is no visible decline in crude oil in the global market. Crude oil is already at $ 116 per barrel and will increase due to Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine. There is no visible softening in Russia’s leader despite the imposition of sanctions. Among the levies was a ban on oil imports into the said country. Russia is second among the countries in the world (second to Saudi Arabia) that supplies oil.
If the unrest in Ukraine continues and is tolerated, it will be felt all over the world because many countries are dependent on Russian oil and this includes the Philippines. Poor countries are increasingly sensitive to the love of oil because everything depends on it. Every movement of people in the world involves gas.
With this happening, the government must implement how to save on fuel and diesel consumption. Today there is a rollback in the price of petrol and diesel but it is not enough to reduce the burden of motorists. It is still small in fact because the oil price hike has increased 11 times in a row.
One of the good things the government can do is implement a day without private vehicles on the road. Carless day. This will help a lot to save fuel. Aside from saving fuel, air pollution will also be reduced.
To save money, continue the work from home that has been tested now with the pandemic. It is effective. Continuing the WFH will reduce vehicle users and save fuel. It also saves on companies because it will reduce the use of electricity in the office.
Another option is to ban government officials from using fuel-efficient vehicles. The officers have free fuel so they have no choice but to use large vehicles. Give them priority to save gas to be an example to the people.
