Some groups of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have urged the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to lift the deployment ban in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, OFWs Kaagapay president Bong Concha appealed to listen to the voices of our compatriots who want to work abroad especially in Saudi Arabia to help their families.
It was stated in the said statement that the implementation of a more concrete policy related to the protection of OFWs is necessary if the purpose of such a ban is to protect our countrymen against abusive employers.
Meanwhile, AkoOFWs Chairman Chie Umandap said he understands the argument of DOLE Sec. Silvestre Bello III stressed that so far up to 6,000 OFWs and their families have been affected by the said deployment ban.
It will be recalled that one of the reasons why the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) implemented a deployment ban in Saudi Arabia was due to the non-payment of salaries of some employers there.
