
The number of violators of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban has reached more than 2,300.
According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), a total of 2,313 people have violated the commission’s nationwide election gun ban.
Of the 2,249 violators were civilians, 40 were security guards, 14 were police officers, and 10 were military personnel.
1,785 firearms, 10,157 pieces of ammunition and 826 deadly weapons were confiscated from the violators of the 2,209 police operations.
According to the PNP, most of the violators are still from the National Capital Region with 854, Calabarzon, 250 and Central Visayas with 241.
Under Resolution No. 10728, the Comelec prohibits the carrying and transportation of firearms and deadly weapons outside their homes from January 9 to June 8.
Law enforcers are exempted from the gun ban, but must be authorized by the Comelec and must wear an agency-prescribed uniform while on duty during the height of the election period.
