The National Printing Office (NPO) has already printed about 106,000 defective ballots.
During the hearing of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms on the update on the preparation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the May 2022 election, Committee Vice-Chair Elpidio Barzaga lashed out at the commission on ballot printing in the upcoming elections.
According to Comelec Commissioner George Garcia, the defective ballots were printed from old NPO printers.
Defective ballots usually have “smudges” or ink stains, incorrect machine cutting or splitting, incorrect lines, and a different color.

The official ensured that all defective ballots were counted and then burned and this would be notified first to all political parties.
Garcia added that the Comelec remains “committed” to “transparency” in the printing of ballots.
