The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded 63 recorded election-related violence since the campaign period began on January 9 until today, May 9.

But of that number, 41 appear to have nothing to do with the election, while six are suspected election-related.

The number of validated election-related violent incidents by the PNP nationwide rose to 16, a day before the elections tomorrow.

According to PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo, the number of shooting incidents in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur on Saturday involved supporters of two rival mayoral candidates in the said town.

Four were killed in the shooting while four were also wounded.

Two were immediately arrested while the identities of the other escapees were still being ascertained.

But Police Brigadier General Westrimundo Obinque, regional director of Police Regional Office 1, said the shootout can be considered an isolated case because the situation remains peaceful throughout Ilocos Sur and the Ilocos-Pangasinan region.
