The number of unemployed Filipinos dropped in January of this year despite the tighter quarantine level than in Metro Manila, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
According to PSA chief and National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa, the number of unemployed adult Filipinos, or those aged 15 and over, in January 2022 hit 2.93 million, or the equivalent of a 6.4 percent unemployment rate.
This is lower than the 6.6 percent unemployment rate recorded in December 2021 and at 340,000 less than the 3.27 million jobless Filipinos in the last month of last year.
The PSA said Central Visayas has the highest joblessness rate of all regions after recording 6.4 percent in January.
Cagayan Valley has the lowest joblessness rate at 4.3 percent.
Meanwhile, MIMAROPA has the highest underemployment rate at 25 percent, while the National Capital Region with 9 percent is the mildest.
