It is possible to increase the shipment cost or charge of ships for delivering cargoes.
According to Philippine Liner Shipping Association (PLSA) President Mark Matthew Parco, their member’s operating cost has reached 50% due to the continuous increase in oil prices.
He said they were asked not to raise charges when the pandemic had just started, which they did to help the country.
Parco added that although the industry has been losing money for several years, their operations are still going on because it is important to deliver the goods to different places but they also need funds to continue their business.
Meanwhile, the Maritime Industry Authority or MARINA said that the domestic shipping industry has been deregulated so that they can do nothing but ask the shipping companies not to increase the charges too much.
