During the Sixth Quad Committee Hearing conducted on 20 September 2024, the Committee revealed that though it has already unearthed some of the most gruesome and atrocious crimes that were committed by former President Rodrigo Duterte, his family, and his cohorts, the investigation is far from over. The Committee teased that it would be revealing a matrix or a network of connections showing the connections of Alice Guo, Cassandra Ong, Rodrigo Duterte, Bato Dela Rosa, Bong Go, and Michael Yang in due time.

Tony Yang a.k.a. Alfredo Lim, Michael Yang’s brother, was arrested on 19 September 2024 based on a mission order. Tony Yang was involved in Rice cartels, import and export of certain items, and Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (“POGO”). His name was mentioned multiple times in connection with the POGO at the Alwana compound in Cagayan de Oro, which he also owned. The Committee believes that the capture of Tony Yang will strengthen the case against Michael Yang, former economic adviser of Digong Duterte.

Michael Yang himself had been a subject of numerous issues and criminal happenings in the Philippines. Who can forget the Pharmally scandal which took advantage of the dire Covid-19 situation? Michael Yang took advantage of the desperation of the Filipino people by overpricing government contracts for medical supplies. Michael Yang was also linked to the PhP3.6 Billion drug bust in Mexico, Pampanga, where drugs were seized from a warehouse owned by Empire 999 Realty Corp., a company connected to him. As further proof of his demonic nature, he has also been the subject of investigations relating to illegal POGOs, drug trafficking, land grabbing by Chinese nationals, and extra-judicial killings committed in furtherance of the former president’s war on drugs.

Tony Yang is financially linked to Alice Guo, who facilitated the POGO operations in Bamban, Tarlac. Alice Guo and Cassandra Ong themselves personally knew each other and had been operating in the same POGO circles where Duanren Wu, a key figure in the POGO scene, was also very active. On the other hand, Michael Yang is part of former President Duterte’s “inner circle”, where Bato Dela Rosa and Bong Go also belonged. Previous investigations led by the Quad Committee revealed that Bato was the attack dog of the former president. At the same time, Bong Go ensured that the dirty money that Duterte and his cohorts received from POGOs and those paying payola were properly collected and distributed.

Reports reveal that the former president’s source of “income” did not only come from the drug trade but also from POGOs and small-time gambling operations, rice cartels, and overpriced government procurement contracts. The money collected from these operations funded Duterte’s drug operations and the “war on drugs” which was just a front to get rid of the former president’s enemies and competitors. The money was also partly used for the “reward” system, where Duterte and his cohorts used hitmen to kill whoever threatened his power.

Alice Guo, Cassandra Ong, Bato Dela Rosa, Bong Go, and Michael Yang are part of a very large network of illegalities that was headed by former President Rodrigo Duterte. These people thought they could get away with their crimes by fleeing the country and hiding behind different personas. If not for the thorough investigations conducted by the Quad Committee, these crimes would not be discovered. The Quad Committee’s valiant efforts to unravel this sophisticated network of illegal activities are laudable as they have been working tirelessly and investigating through 10 to 12 hours of hearings. If not for the Quad Committee, the Filipino people would have remained blind to the Duterte administration’s crimes.
