
In coordination with the Bureau of Customs-External Affairs Office (BOC-EAO), the Manila International Container Port (MICP) welcomed Mr. Katsu Shigeaki, a Customs Expert from the Japan International Cooperation Agency in a meeting held on January 22, 2025.


MICP District Collector Rizalino Jose C. Torralba and the representative from the X-Ray Inspection Project (XIP) presented an overview of the XIP’s processes. This unit is crucial in combating smuggling, enforcing customs laws, and protecting national security. A walkthrough was made at the examination area near the XIP office, where the Field Officer, Mr. Gerard L. Del Rosario, demonstrated how the X-ray scanners work and explained how artificial intelligence and machine learning aid in identifying suspicious shipments.
The BOC-MICP reiterated its commitment to enhancing partnerships with other agencies to continuously provide strategic technical assistance and capacity-building support to enhance customs processes and governance.
