President Rodrigo Duterte has already signed into law raising the mandatory retirement age of military officers to 60-years-old.
In RA No. 11709 that members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines with the rank of Second Lieutenant/Ensign (O-1) to Colonel/Capitan (O-6) are mandatory to retire at the age of 56 or when they have accumulated 30 years and satisfactory active duty.
While those with the rank of Brigadier General/Commodore (O-7) to Lieutenant General/Vice Admiral (O-9) must retire at the age of 59-years or a maximum tenure-in-grade of three years.
Officials commissioned under Presidential Decree No. 1908 or assigned to the Corps of Professors must retire at age 60 or after 20 years of service.
Enlisted personnel is compulsory to retire when they have accumulated at least 30 years of service or have reached the age of 56.
Meanwhile, those holding key military positions are required to retire upon completion of their fixed tour of duty of three years regardless of their age including chief of staff, vice chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, commanding general of the Philippine Army, commanding general of Philippine Air Force, flag officer of Philippine Navy, unified command commanders and inspector general.
