The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reminded us that employees who will work on election day tomorrow, May 9 are entitled to receive an additional 30% of the basic wage on election day tomorrow, May 9 based on the Labor Code according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
This is following the issued Proclamation No. 1357 by President Rodrigo Duterte declaring May 9, 2022, as a special non-working holiday.
The Labor Code also states that on special days, employees who work overtime or more than eight hours must receive 305 of their hourly rate.
If the employee works on a special day during their day off, they must receive an additional 505 of their basic wage for the first eight hours of work.
An additional 30% of the hourly rate for those with overtime work on the special day that is the employee’s day off.
The DOLE official also encouraged workers to vote on election day.
