Another died due to hazing in the fraternity. 18-year-old Reymart Madraso,  student, resident of Kalayaan, Laguna died on Monday. Members of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity were behind the hazing whose newly recruited member Madrazo, cover-up took place somewhere in Kalayaan. Madrazo was taken to a hospital in Pakil, Laguna but he died of bruises on various parts of his body.
Despite the fact that there is already a law-Republic Act 11053 (Anti-Hazing Law) passed in 2018, the inhumane torture of new members of the fraternity still remains. Under the law, hazing and other violent initiation rites of fraternities, sororities, and other similar groups are strictly prohibited. The school, leaders of fraternities, parents, and even the owner of the place where the hazing took place can also be prosecuted.
Despite this, the hazing still continues. It just shows that the hazing law yet has no teeth. Many members of the fraternity were ongoing apparent executioners at the time of initiation.
In February 2021, 23-year-old Criminology student Omer Despabiladera of the Solis Institue of Technology in Bulan, Sorsogon also died. Despabiladera died as a result of severe torture by members of the Tau Gamma Fraternity. According to police, more than 20 members of Tau Gamma were involved in the killing of Despabiladera. It is not known what happened in this case.
In September 2017, UST law student Horacio ‘‘ Atio ”Castillo died at the hands of members of the Aegis Juris fraternity of which he was a member. Nine members of the fraternity were currently in jail for the murder of Castillo.
There is also hazing taking place at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA). In 2019, Cadet 3rd Class George Carl Magsayo died after being punched in the stomach by a Cadet 2nd Class. Magsayo writhed in pain so he was rushed to a hospital in Sta. Rosa, Laguna but was already dead when he arrived there.
The toothlessness of the Anti-Hazing Law is the reason why inhumane torture that results in death continues to occur or is only repeated. The members of the fraternity are not afraid so there is no end to ‘pataynity’
