The Sandiganbayan acquitted four employees of the Land Bank of the Philippines from graft charges for lack of evidence.
Among those acquit were Emelyn Pizarro, cashier, Hendrie Soriaga, accounts clerk; Danilo Panaguiton, teller and Ricardo Epino, document examiner.
they were charged for allegedly authorizing an LBP check amounting to P364,892.61 in the name of Revenue Collection Officer II Marina Coronel who retired on January 23, 1998, to be deposited in an account that was not allegedly for the payee.
According to the prosecution, Coronel’s signature was allegedly forged to withdraw the money on Oct 15, 1998.
However, at the height of the trial, the prosecution failed to present the colonel in court to prove his accusation and none of the police officers who examined the document submitted by Coronel, who allegedly forged his signature, attended the hearings.
